Professional and Prompt
Mike was professional, prompt, and willing to accommodate special requests (we wanted to use bricks from the chimney to build raised beds in our garden). He finished slightly ahead of schedule despite delays caused by shoddy work done by the previous owners.

Everyone else wanted to put in a stainless steel liner in our home, which would not have worked. This was the only company that agreed to do things the way we wanted. They rebuilt the whole thing and changed the design, which was not correct in the first place. They are very knowledgeable, thorough, and competent. They even dropped the price when some of the work wasn’t necessary. Outstanding!
He took the utmost care of my house while working
Mike came out and gave me an estimate two days after I called. We had to special order a log set, but once that arrived, Mike scheduled me the next day. He and two other workers arrived at 8:00am as promised and took the utmost care of my house and property while working. Drop cloths were used and special care was given to make sure nothing got dusty or damaged (flat screen TV, new couches, carpet, etc). The crew got right to work and completed the installation, problem free at 2:00pm.
Mike is very knowledgeable and took extra time to make sure I knew how to use all the settings on my new fireplace as well as all of the safety information. He also fixed a gas leak for me and helped out with a water heater problem I was having. He even used a special cleaning on my canyon stone to remove the black from some burn residue.
A flurry of activity
I left messages with three fireplace contractors I found on Angie’s List. Mike Kravas was the only one who actually showed up. He was prompt and knowledgeable. He went through the fireplace options and explained them all very thoroughly, including what we could do to keep the original fireplaces. At the time Mike visited, we were planning a major renovation. We hired a General Contractor for the renovation, but requested that American Chimney and Fireplace provide our new fireplace. Installation of the new fireplace included running a completely new, larger flue up from the second floor through the third and fourth floors to the roof. Mike’s crew accomplished all of the work in an amazingly quick time of two days. It was a flurry of activity to say the last!
Very honest assessment
They came to work on our chimney. When Mike came for the estimate, he gave me two estimates and warranties, one for re-pointing the chimney and one for rebuilding it. He sat down and explained everything about the differences. He checked out our other chimney as well. He was being informative and was not trying to push us in any direction. We did not feel like he was trying to hard sell us. When he got up there he gave us a very honest assessment. The guys that came out to do the work were really great. They were exceedingly polite. I felt totally safe around them. They cleaned up very well, and left things better than when they came. You didn’t even know they were there.
Very polite, professional and easy to work with
I had some water damage in my house from the chimney. Mike came to the house and explained that the damage was caused by condensation inside my unlined chimney. He gave me three options and three estimates for dealing with the problem. Mike's crew arrived a few minutes early on the agreed-upon date. They laid out drop cloths to protect the floor in the house. They removed several courses of brick from the top of the chimney, spot pointed the rest, and installed a liner. They carted away the old bricks. They cleaned up after themselves. The chimney was not in as bad shape as originally expected. There was less pointing to do than Mike had thought, so the work was done in less time than expected. Later that afternoon, Mike stopped by to inspect the work his crew had done, and make sure I was satisfied.
The crew was great, very polite, neat and professional. Mike was easy to work with. We had to change the date twice, once because of my schedule, and once because of the weather. Mike was really accommodating. Best of all, because the job involved less work than originally estimated, Mike knocked $500 off the price!
